Craig Eastman & Scott Morris: Photo-a-day 2009/2010 http://disko.org.uk/photo-a-day 2 photographers. 1 year. 730 pictures. Fri, 06 Nov 2009 23:57:26 +0000 en hourly 1 http://wordpress.org/?v=3.2.1 To The End http://disko.org.uk/photo-a-day/?p=1058 http://disko.org.uk/photo-a-day/?p=1058#comments Fri, 06 Nov 2009 23:57:26 +0000 Scott http://disko.org.uk/photo-a-day/?p=1058 2009-11-06 at 18-20-14 - To The EndI think it time to declare victory and move on from this project, returning it to the rebuilt governments and public service structures.

Hmm. I might be getting this site confused with Iraq. At any rate, I think between the sporadic quality of my “work” and the sporadic quantity of my erstwhile co-host’s, the central tenets of the site have been so completely violated as to render much further daily effort null and void.

Which is not to say that it hasn’t achieved what I wanted out of it, at least. I’m in the habit of taking the camera everywhere rather than leaving it on the shelf. I have a better, if far from complete, idea of what them little buttons on that there camera does. I’m thinking a lot more about what I want to get from a shot before pressing the shutter rather than just pressing the shutter.

I’ve also recognised that the time and effort involved in getting one good photo a day really isn’t sustainable with my lifestyle or my passion for the hobby. I’d rather spend a good chunk of one day wandering around and getting a number of interesting shots and dripping them out daily, rather than get home from work tired, slightly annoyed and then being reduced to lining up batteries or photographing a cafetière.

I’m going to try to keep this up, but not to the extent that it feels like a chore rather than a joy. You can see how it pans out over at my Flickr photostream or my MobileMe gallery.

Until next time, take care of yourself, and each other.

Originality http://disko.org.uk/photo-a-day/?p=1055 http://disko.org.uk/photo-a-day/?p=1055#comments Thu, 05 Nov 2009 21:13:14 +0000 Scott http://disko.org.uk/photo-a-day/?p=1055 2009-11-05 at 19-50-43 - OriginalityI confidently predict that I will have posted the only firework picture in all of the U.K. today.

Not the ideal picture, nor from the ideal place. I’d expected the display at Glasgow Green to start about three quarters of an hour later than it actually did, thanks to some bum assumptions.

As it turned out I’d only made it to Victoria Bridge before it all kicked off, so my camerabag resting atop the 1850′s stonework had to do for stabilisation rather than the tripod slung across my back, lugged around for the occasion.

It’s good exercise, I suppose. None of the shots wound up truly spectacular, but this isn’t too terrible, I like to think.

I say eternal. Until about the end of December, really. And it’s still light when I’m in work.

Not Tonight, Josephine http://disko.org.uk/photo-a-day/?p=1038 http://disko.org.uk/photo-a-day/?p=1038#comments Sun, 01 Nov 2009 17:25:31 +0000 Scott http://disko.org.uk/photo-a-day/?p=1038 2009-11-01 at 16-28-35 - Not Tonight, JosephineFor some unknown reason my left eye stings like the Dickens today, so I’m giving it a rest from the ignominies of contact lenses.

However, Glasgow’s campaign of rain appears to have stepped up its campaign of irritation after a one day respite. After putting up with a childhood of being pretty much blind in the rain as droplets rudely cling to spectacles, I’ve no real urge to go through that again today when I could be sat indoors playing Oblivion.

Hence, my windowsill. Tinted to reflect current mood.

Field of Broken Dreams http://disko.org.uk/photo-a-day/?p=1034 http://disko.org.uk/photo-a-day/?p=1034#comments Sat, 31 Oct 2009 18:52:01 +0000 Scott http://disko.org.uk/photo-a-day/?p=1034 2009-10-31 at 14-39-33 - Field of Broken DreamsSo, a stone’s throw from Hampden Park, assuming you’re very good at throwing stones, lies Cathkin Park.

Which used to be called Hampden Park, just to keep things confusing. Was once the home of Third Lanark A.C, bankrupt and defunct in 1967, now home to an amateur league side of the same name.

It remains one of the few football grounds I’ve seen with trees growing in it.

Was rather hoping to get the light falling on the goalposts, but the celestial alignment was against me.

I don’t mind the dark so much, but the absolutely constant teeming rain really takes the edge off any wish to tramp up to town or anywhere else, for that matter in search of targets.

As such, I rather expect to have completely exhausted my living room of stuff by Christmas. It will make insurance claims easier, I suppose.

Thanks go to Tiltshift Generator and Mill Colour, a devastating image tooling combo, especially given the asking price of 59p.
