One of my favourite haunts. Ratio means the detail’s going to be lost when displayed on the page. Cest la vie.

Autumn explodes, albeit on a very dreary, very wet day. Yet more Lensbaby practice. Focusing at this distance is very much a challenge, especially with so much fine detail going on. It’s very difficult to determine precisely where the focal point is, and that’s assuming of course that your viewfinder’s diopter settings are spot on. In this instance I’ve drifted very slightly to the left of the base of the tree. I live and I learn.
This week’s obtuse title (it’s what some bint was cooking on Britain’s Best Dish while I was cropping this). More practice with the Lensbaby. Because it is strictly manual focus there is definitely a steep learning curve to be had, not least of all because there is no way to determine the precise focal point other than through the viewfinder. Finding it easier at close range, as here, rather than longer distances (next photo).
Upon arriving at Seacombe ferry terminal the other night I immediately decreed the Queen Mary 2 officially a “Big-Ass Boat”.
More Lensbaby action. I needed a decent glass of my favourite tipple after managing to drive my Amazing Collapsing Car into the back of someone else.
A mysterious benefactor has funded new advances in “creative” arenas, thanks to the Lensbaby.
So, I would like to start portraiting friends, relatives and enemies. There are numerous problems with this shot that I used to test some techniques. The texture and tone are exactly where I wanted them to be, but as per usual my rush to shoot has compromised the composition, particularly in cluttering up the face. And why, when exposing the second time for sky, did I not wait until that sodding odd dark patch of cloud passed? Can’t be bothered cloning it out because it should never have been there in the first place. You lives and you learns.
